In my childhood, Haverhill had a reputation for being a smelly, unwelcoming and unattractive place to come. In the time that has passed this town has changed so much it's almost unrecognisable in comparison to how it used to be. With the plans for the plant to open right on the doorstep of so many people, if it were allowed to go ahead, you can expect very few companies who would want to set up business in town, affecting infastructure. You'd drive away people who already call Haverhill home, affecting their health and making the town less desirable for families. Not to mention that just a couple hundred metres away from the proposed site there is a Monstesori school for pre-school children. Now, anyone with half a brain cell would surely come to the conclusion that having an anaerobic digestion plant on the doorstep of a nursery is a bad idea. Especially, given that money talks for the people who want to build such a thing, probably don't want a lawsuit further down the line when a generation of children who attended whilst the plant was open then develop health issues later on in life. Anaerobic digestion produces carbon dioxide and methane. Does the Thurlow estate really want to expose people to this? I suggest their wallets probably don't.
