I object to this application SCC/0045/23SE for the following reasons: The location: this site is too close to residential and business areas in Haverhill. It is not a brownfield land and the application is not supported by Suffolk mineral and waste plan policies WP3 and WP7 the site is not currently used for waste management, distribution or used for any industry. It is also not integrated with a water treatment facility nor near any agricultural buildings. There was a recent explosion at a biodigester site in Oxfordshire, from the footage of the explosion you can clearly see a big ball of fire in the sky, that site did not have a residential area, offices, nursery and pub in close proximity, unlike this proposed site. This site is also on a bus route and near a busy flight path. I feel the council has a duty of care to Haverhill residents and the general public to not allow this biodigester to be built on this site. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-66991876 Acorn cannot provide any guarantees that lightning would never strike it, nor that it "would never explode" for any other possible reason. It is a highly flammable gas they will keep contained and it's irresponsible to allow it to be kept so close to where people are living, working, entrusting their children to stay, happen to be flying over. The lightning strike (or whatever else caused an explosion) I'm sure you would consider it to be an act of God. However knowing this risk and still allowing something so dangerous to be built so near to a large amount of people and potentially killing so many people would be a reckless endangerment of human life. Please do not be so blas about human life just because it's not your life. Just because you think it's impossible and Acorn may say it's impossible and the odds say it's unlikely does not mean it will never happen. Impossible events happen. Flood risk - the applicant have stated that there will be no increase, however part of the area is designated Flood Zone 3 which means there is a high probability of flooding, this risk will also increase with time due to global warming. Traffic - At peak times they have advised that there will be an additional 148 lorry/tractor movements a day. Using the roads and farm access routes to the site. The roads around the site are not suitable for this level of extra traffic. The Haverhill bypass is already congested with culina lorries, drivers do not patiently sit behind them instead they frequently overtake/attempt to overtake. Therefore these roads will become far more dangerous, there is no infrastructure in place to make the roads safer. The A1307 is already an incredibly dangerous road and the changes made so far have not made it safer, they're are still plenty of accidents and the road is frequently being closed. Regardless of whether the fatalities have decreased the road is only safer if the amount of accidents however minor has decreased. Environmental impact: the site is close to Stour brook and near West Town Park. This site will be a threat to both wild habitats and public space. There will also be an increase in vermin and flies. There is also a greater risk of methane leakage. Lots of these plants record regular methane leakages. Methane is 34 times more potent than Co2 therefore any attempts to be "greener" by allowing this are made redundant by methane leakages.
