Dear Mr Rutter
Objection: Planning application Acorn Biodigester, Haverhill. App.no SCC/0045/23SE
We object to the above application and detail our reasons below:
The plan for the site in this area will have many negative effects to public health, road safety and the lifestyle of local residents.
We do not want to be subjected to unknown particulates in the air and especially don't want our children to inhale them. Can anyone guarantee the pollution emitted into the air from the site is safe in the short, medium and long term for our children and vulnerable people, us and the animals and wildlife?
The use of agricultural land currently used to grow human and animal feeding crops be used to grow 'food' for the digester; how is this acceptable? It seems illogical that West Suffolk will be helped to reduce its carbon emissions by a site that creates pollution from expelled gas and particulates and the loss of food production.
An operational site will create light and water ways pollution and blight the landscape. There will be more HGVs on rural roads that are not suitable, on main roads that are not well maintained and where a high casualty route already lies. Heavy vehicles from other areas like Sudbury carrying animal waste will smell, cause damage and add to congestion as they trundle through historic villages and on roads already in a poor state of repair. Is the transportation of this waste safe? Does it spread disease and cause pollution? Can anyone provide clear positive responses, we think not!
What is the rationale of a methane gas digestion plant when the government plan to stop the use of gas in the next decade? Does the quarterly subsidy over the next decade have anything to do with it because the local area will not see any benefit?
Haverhill/ Withersfield, does not need this site, it will not help the community or local economy in anyway. House prices will likely drop and the reputation of the town already in desperate need of improvement will take a massive hit. Putting this plant at the 'gateway 'to Haverhill which already has a toilet roll sculpture will also smell like a dirty toilet and be the last thing the town needs. Businesses will likely flea and new enterprise will find anywhere better.
We adamantly object to this application.
Yours sincerely
Dawn and Nathan Bamford
