The building of the anaerobic digestion facility near Haverhill research park raises a number health and safety concerns, as well as a detrimental impact to the local environment and businesses. The local area has started a successful business research park, and the Epicentre across from the suggested site gives the opportunity to support small businesses and biotechnology start-up companies. This has potential to become a new research hub adjacent to Cambridge, which would be in serious threat with the building of the digestion facility, deterring new businesses from starting in the area. The surrounding area, and gateway into Cambridgeshire, has flourishing wildlife which will undoubtably be affected through the construction of the site and ongoing lorry movement. In addition, the lengthy lorry journey between the digestion site and its end point will contribute to carbon emissions, and increase large transport vehicles travelling along the A1307, an already busy and dangerous road. As a employee of a business located at the Haverhill research park, I object to the unsightly presence of the building, and the constant smells generated which would likely induce headaches. It will also extremely deter residents of the Epicentre for going on a lunch time walk, to gain exercise and increase mental wellbeing during working hours. Not to mention the recent explosion of the Severn Trent green power facility which exploded, a legitimate concerns for locals in the Haverhill area. This facility should be planned further away from residential areas.
